xx [Site Update] IRC Chat
Yesterday at 10:21:09 AM by Geoff Mendicino
We have a new IRC chat to replace the shoutbox that was killed because too many people were RPing and having sex in it, so here we go, a moderated IRC channel: http://www.freezecracker.com/forum/index.php?action=chat

Please come join in and leave the chatroom on, it's just like the shoutbox except without killing all my resources and having my host threaten to take down every website I own!

Please leave feedback below, especially if you have problems joining it.

If you know how to work IRC, the log-in essentials are--
Server: irc.synirc.net
Channel: #freezecracker

See you there.

xx [News] Band of Bugs update will let 360 Avatars beat the crap out of each other!
June 30, 2009, 10:29:05 AM by Geoff Mendicino

When Avatars came out, I was asking myself, when am I going to be able to beat up other people dressed up as Lone Texas Ranger? Weirdly, no games have ever came out which involved some sort of physical action between avatars, but NinjaBee games have answered the demand.

"NinjaBee ... announced today that beginning July 8, Band of Bugs will include Avatar support." According to a press release. "Players will also be able to engage in hand-to-hand combat and spell casting in eight-player Spider Hunter mode."

This is a pretty fun game mode, in my opinion, and will definitely be worth seeing how I can use my "Push" ability to shove my friends off the game map or right into a den of spiders. Good times to be had.

We'll keep up with further developments and perhaps a playthrough once it gets released on the 8th.

xx [REVIEW] Alone in the Dark: Inferno
June 29, 2009, 09:33:11 PM by VainZiler
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk79dwNtFkQw[/youtube]

The Game
Alone in the Dark: Inferno is the PS3 port/revision/what ever of Alone in the Dark (The 5th title in the series) that had previously been released on PC, 360, PS2, and Wii. Boasting bug fixes, tightened controls, and a whole new scene in the game, Alone in the Dark: Inferno has a lot to live up to. But did it fulfill its promise?

The Story
You play as a man who's lost his memory. Awaking to find yourself the hostage of two old men, you are forced along a hotel building until this bizarre fissure opens up in the walls and consumes one of your captors. Now you must escape the hotel and solve the mystery of what's taking place in Central Park. This to me is one of the biggest driving points of the game, its story.

Visuals
Meh. The game doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look good either. Character models looks fine with many small details shining through the chaos of terribly shaded buildings and a see of image crops consume the world around you. I've seen worse, but I've seen a hell of a lot better.

Audio
Though the voice acting is average, the music in this game is stunning and beautiful. This is (to me) the second driving point of this game. Every track is appropriate for the mood and helps to keep you in an eerie and paranoid mind set, while level completion music feels like movie credits relaxing you after a thrill.

Controls
And... this is where the game bombs. Though this game claims to have fixed a lot of controls (and when compared to the other iterations of Alone in the Dark, they are) they still feel rather unmoving, leaving the player feeling like they have to force themselves to play the game. This makes for a rough time in the game as well, as several puzzles in the game require precise button control, and when your controls are fighting against you, it makes it tough for an enjoyable game experience.

Replay Value
Virtually none. Sure, you COULD go through the game twice, as there are two different endings, however one of the games unique features, the already-to-go-and-use chapter AND level select make it rather pointless. Seriously, why include this feature from the get go anyways? I bet day one of release when people saw that feature they used it to skip to the last 2 minuets of the game, 'beat it', spoiled the endings on the net, then turned it back in.

Final Thoughts
Alone in the Dark: Inferno is without a doubt the superior version of Alone in the Dark (5). However, this still really isn't saying much. This game has a lot of potional and is really enjoyable if you can look past its flaws, however some of the flaws still present in the game, such as trophy unlock bugs that make you unable to complete the trophies, or jumping bugs that cause you to stay in air and fall to death in place, are rather bothersome bugs that may (and have) enrage many gamers. But, with a $18 price tag at most game retailers that I've seen, these flaws, though aggravating, are a bit easier to coup with.

I give Alone in the Dark: Inferno on Playstation 3, an 6/10.

xx [NEWS] Total PS2 Emulation to See the Light of Day on PS3?
June 29, 2009, 08:57:48 PM by VainZiler
A patent filed by Sony shows that (in theory) Sony has found a way to produce total PS2 emulation on the PS3 by using the cell chip. It's unknown at this time whether this means we'll be able to one day pop in our own PS2 disks and enjoy the games we've already purchased, or if we'll have to repurchase digital copies of PS2 games off the PSN.

xx [NEWS] Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Delayed
June 29, 2009, 12:30:34 PM by AgainstBelief
17 Hits!

The day we were all waiting for was today, June 29th. Today was the day that Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was to be released on both the Live Arcade and Playstation Network. Unfortunately though, we must reset our countdown clocks as the game has been delayed. Thankfully, Capcom has soothed our worries by releasing an odd teaser trailer lovingly titled 'Marvel vs Capcom 2: Episode 1 - Ryu vs Wolverine' to get us even more excited and impatient.

Intense!

But when is the new release date? Well, the word on the street is that it'll be out by the end of July.
