Apples to Apples XBLA Review

Title Screen

Apples to Apples (800 MSP, $10) on XBLA is one of those ideas just makes sense, especially with Microsoft’s recent turn to casual gaming. If you’ve ever played the actual card game before, you’ll know what to expect: A judge chooses an encompassing “green apple” (which is a descriptive word), where the rest of the players must choose the best “red apple” (which can be anything from a word, a phrase to a celebrity) from their hand to match up best. The judge, blind to who chose what, ultimately decides which matches best, and control of the judge passes over to the next player until one player gets a set amount of matches. In other words, all the fun to be had in this game is entirely social– playing into each others’ sense of (hopeful) humor in order to rack up the most amount of points.
